Surf's Up Wave

£24.95 inc. tax

A hand crafted Cornish driftwood sign with the caption "Surf's Up", which is a traditional and popular slang term popular with surfers meaning the waves are ideal for surfing. For instance; "Hey man, grab your board! Surf's up!". It can also be used by extension to indicate humorously that something is ready to begin. "Come on, Jerry, the car is packed and we're ready to go. Surf's up, dude!"

This irregular shaped timber sign comes complete with brass eyelet hangers and a macramé rope tied at both ends with half hitch knots. The right hand side has been hand painted with white acrylic paint to suggest a breaking wave.

The characters have been drawn freehand with acrylic markersI although I draw all my lettering by hand first using a 2B pencil to create unique flourishes and curves and when I am happy with the design, it is then refined, scanned and then re-traced and vectorised in Adobe Illustrator. The phrase has been pyrographed at a high temperature to burn the hand drawn script on to the timber and the driftwood featured in this product was found on the beach near at Poldhu Cove on The Lizard Peninsula near Mullion Cove in South West Cornwall, amongst seaweed and debris washed up on the shoreline. The wood itself has been bleached in a large bleaching tank for two days. It is then rinsed and left to dry naturally before being sanded to eliminate splinters or rough edges. Two coats of exterior varnish are then applied should the sign be hung or displayed outdoors if required.
